The first kiosk is always the slowest. Here's the cheat sheet from helping a few dozen riads, cafés and ateliers go live.
What you need
- An old Android phone or a low-end tablet (anything from 2019 onward works).
- Wi-Fi that reaches your entrance. A 4G dongle if not.
- A wall mount or a hard surface near the door. We like the cheap MagSafe-style stands from Marjane.
- A 5V charger plugged in continuously — the screen needs to stay on.
The 10-minute setup
- Create your workspace at signup. You'll land on your dashboard at yourcompany.timing.ma.
- Add a department (e.g. "Floor", "Kitchen", "Reception") under Departments.
- Add your employees. For each, fill name, CIN, hire date, position. They auto-get a signed QR — you don't need to do anything else.
- Pick a shift template under Shifts. Start with one shift per department. You can always tweak grace periods later.
- On the kiosk device, open Chrome and go to yourcompany.timing.ma/kiosk.php. Sign in with the dedicated kiosk_operator user you created in Employees. Tap the screen to enter full-screen mode.
- Add to home screen — Android Chrome's three-dot menu → "Add to Home screen" → opens as a kiosk-style app.
- Print a small card with the instructions: "Open the app on your phone → scan QR → enter PIN". Tape it next to the kiosk.
The mistakes we see
- Skipping the PIN fallback test. Always try one PIN-fallback punch on the kiosk itself before going live. It saves you on day one when someone's phone camera is broken.
- Mounting the kiosk too high. Mount at 1.4–1.5m. Above 1.7m, short employees have to jump.
- Forgetting the charger. The phone screen needs to be on continuously. Don't run on battery.
